Mainstreaming Corporate Responsibility in the Business School Curriculum
In March 2005 EABIS
launched an exciting three-year project on curriculum development in the areas
of Corporate Responsibility and Business in Society. Thanks to the vision and
commitment of then – Dean Laura Tyson, the project was led by London Business
School until 2007. Subsequently that role has shifted to INSEAD with Project Director Craig Smith.
The overarching objective of the project
is to drive uptake of teaching materials in core courses on degree and
executive learning programmes to demonstrate a new, innovative and
socially responsible style of management.
An inaugural meeting was held on 7 July 2005. Find here further details on the event or download the Press Releases concerning the launch of the project. This event was open for EABIS members only.
Following
the inaugural meeting, EABIS members from across Europe have been
invited to submit case proposals with the intention of developing a
range of cases across a number of subject areas for use by mainstream
faculty. The call for tender closed in November 2005. Case selection
has been completed and 12 selected cases are expected to be ready by
Summer 2008.
Apart from making the cases
available through the The European Case Clearing House (ECCH), the 12 individual cases were officially presented on 11 September during
the CR Knowledge and Learning Forum as part of the EABIS 2008 Colloquium. During
the Forum, both case-writers and corporate managers presented the individual
case to illustrate in detail the business dilemma, strategies and
decision-making processes. In addition, the Forum gave key stakeholders the
opportunity to discuss face to face how these cases can be integrated into
mainstreaming education and in-company training programmes. A Special Issue of the Journal of Business Ethics Education (JBEE) containing 7 of the 12 cases was also launched at the Forum. Finally, a book launch is foreseen for Spring 2009.
All EABIS members are provided full and free access to all cases and teaching
notes via the EABIS intranet. All other interested parties are able to purchase
the cases and teaching notes through ECCH.
The final phase of the project, foreseen for the end of 2008, will provide an
overview of alternative pedagogies that business schools, companies and other
organisations are using to teach and mainstream CR.
A
concise overview of the project and details of all the 12 cases can be read in
the Winter 2007 Issue of the ECCHO Magazine: http://www.ecch.com/uploads/ECCHO38.pdf
