Ashridge, in
association with the European Academy of Business and Society and with
the support of Microsoft,have organised the 8th European MBA Essay
Award, the annual competition to find the best MBA essay on the
responsibilities of business in a knowledge economy.
The award exists to further debate about the role of business in
society and to do so in a way accessible to a wide audience,
particularly to business leaders and public policy-makers. It also aims
to raise awareness about the relevance of these issues to mainstream
management education.
The winner of the 2007 Ashridge European MBA Essay Award was Hyun-Seung Anna Kim
(MBA Class 2006-07) from Judge Business School, University of
Cambridge. Ms. Kim's prize of 6,000 Euros was presented at the Gala
Dinner of the Sixth Annual Colloquium of EABIS, in Barcelona on 20 September 2007.
Ms. Hyun's winning essay, entitled "Corporate Social Responsibility: A marketing gimmick, an enemy of a free society or the business of business?"
examines two emerging trends: the integration of Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) into the core business of an organisation, and
Socially Responsible Investment (SRI).
Hyun-Seung Anna Kim, who post-MBA has started an internship at the
Oxfam International Secretariat said: 'I am delighted my paper has been
recognised in this manner and hope that it will help stimulate further
consideration from MBAs of the changing role of business in society
from all sides.'
The runner-up essay, "The Role of Public Policy in Promoting CSR", was submitted by Hitomi Imai, also an MBA student from Judge Business School, who received a prize of 2,000 Euros.
