A
three-day professional development workshop (PDW) for Post Doc
Researchers and young faculty staff from different disciplines has been
delivered by INSEAD at the INSEAD campus on 9-10 October 2004 to 20 registered junior faculty:
- European scholars with environmental and social issues
research who plan to submit their work to the 2005 annual meetings of
the Academy of Management or the European Academy of Business in
Society.
- European scholars who have published in journals dedicated
to "Business, the Natural Environment and Society" and who would now
like to also disseminate their research into mainstream management
journals.
- European scholars who have published "Business, the
Natural Environment and Society" research in Europe and who would now
like to also disseminate their research to a North-American audience.
This event has offered
the possibility to bring forward the research work by young
researchers, receiving feedback and suggestions from senior faculty
about their research and publication strategy. By bringing in senior
editors from leading management journals the workshop facilitated
meaningful dialogue about the publication and review process. To
achieve better international networking the PDW was jointly organised
with the Academy of Management (AOM) thus bringing together European and North-American research traditions.
Raison d’etre
This workshop aimed to increase the diversity and quality of
submissions to mainstream management journals from the field of
"Business, the Natural Environment and Society". The event is a
response to two major challenges faced by the emerging research field
of "Business, the Natural Environment and Society":
- Many researchers in this field publish their findings in journals
specializing in the management of environmental and social issues.
Through the PDW, we hope to motivate more scholars to submit their
findings to mainstream management journals (such as the Academy of Management Journal and the Academy of Management Review).
Only by widening their dissemination will environmental and social
issues scholars increase their impact on mainstream management thinking.
We perceive, secondly, a persistent gap between research on
"Business, the Natural Environment and Society" in North America and
Europe. The PDW aims to help scholars to better understand the
respective approaches and to ultimately increase the amount of European
research disseminated to North America.
