Project Deliverables & Conference Results
Programme Information
The Conference Agenda can be found at the INSEAD project website.
The
RESPONSE Project, the world's largest research project on corporate
responsibility and strategic stakeholder management since 2004,
presented its ground breaking findings on October, 12
2007 at the final conference held at INSEAD Business School. RESPONSE has
been the EABIS network's flagship research initiative, with 1.1 million
euros of funding under the EU Commission's FP6 Programme and supported by
EABIS' corporate founding partners IBM, Johnson & Johnson,
Microsoft, Unilever and Shell.
Introductory contributions were made by Günter Verheugen, Vice President and Commissioner for Enterprise & Industry, EU Commission (by video), Frank Brown, Dean of INSEAD, Jens Aaris Thisted, Acting Dean, CBS, Gilbert Lenssen, President, EABIS and underlining the significance and extent of the RESPONSE Project and its recommendations.
Following the international unveiling of the Core Research Findings
from the distinguished academic team, close to 200 senior
representatives discussed the links between managers' and stakeholders'
perspectives on corporate responsibility.
At a
time when consensus continues to grow that business needs to be more
conscious of society's expectations, the findings of Project RESPONSE
show there is still a wide gap between how managers in multinational
companies and external stakeholders view the role of business. In many
cases, the stakeholder CSR initiatives are surprisingly ineffective in
addressing this gap.
A distringuished panel of global executives Richard Evans, CEO, Alcan; Jean-Philippe Courtois, President, Microsoft International and Sandy Ogg,
Chief Human Resources Officer & Global Board Member, Unilever
provided key reflections on the implications for business in a panel
discussion chaired by Peter Lacy.
The
conference delved deeper into the implications of the pioneering
results to business, stakeholders, policy-makers and future scholars
through three dedicated break out sessions structured around the inputs
of renowned academics, forward thinking practitioners and
representatives of the European Commission.
The concluding session hosted in depth dialogue on the implications for future research, practice and policy by Maurizo Zollo, RESPONSE Project Academic Director, INSEAD/Bocconi University, Lise Kingo, Executive Vice President & Chief of Staffs, Novo Nordisk; Mario Monti, former EU Commissioner, President of Bocconi University, Pierre Valette, Head of Unit, DG Research, EU Commission, Simon Zadek, CEO, AccountAbility and Luk van Wassenhove, Director, Social Innovation Centre INSEAD.
